The leadership of River of Life Assembly of God has made a commitment to start a Thrive Student Center in Devils Lake. The Thrive Student Center is part of the Kidcare America after-school mentoring program started by US Missionary, Mike Ferguson. There are 72 KidCare America/Thrive Student Centers in the country in 26 different states. Devils Lake will be the first center in North Dakota.
Mike Ferguson recently came to Devils Lake for a Visioning Weekend in which he shared the overall picture of how this "in your life mentoring" program is changing students' lives across the country. It became evident to those in attendance that the strategy of the Thrive Student Center is not only possible in our community, but definitely needed.
Pastor Kevin Anderson has said, "By starting a Thrive Student Center, we are able to continue building bridges with parents, students, and our community. This is an exciting opportunity for River of Life Assembly of God and I am looking forward to the possibilities this will bring."
There is still much groundwork that needs to be done before the center is actually launched, however. Personnel must be trained, budgets determined, and facilities prepared before we are ready for business. A special Thrive Student Center Prayer Core is being recruited to keep the whole process in prayer. The tentative plan is to have everything in place for a launch in the fall of 2011.
